Waiting always sucks.

Just waiting on my mini's to arrive, and that's almost as painful as torture can get mentally. I want to paint them up to make sure they look awesome, and to see that the paintjob I want to use will work, and to get some games in and actually play some games...

Yeah .. I'm going to go nuts soon.. XD

Warmachine - Khador - Faction Book Review

To say I've seen a few codex's and source books in my time is an understatement, but most of them pale in the glory that Privateer Press has managed to cram into this book.

FULL COLOUR. Just soak that in for a second so you understand.. not 'colour sections' not 'random colour inserts' no. Every page, every single one is in full colour. The fact it cost me just around $30 staggers me. How they pulled it off for the cost is amazing.

Next is content. It's Full of stories and unit descriptions, and data on all the modles in the Khadorian force. With full colour pictures of all of them. And there is painting guides and other really usefull tips in the back.

The one thing I would have liked to see would have been possibly a couple of pages worth of the unit cards people could photocopy and use ead of the cards that you get with the mini's. (Though you can laminate those cards so I guess the point is moot)

Also a small glossary at the back or front would have helped for a quick reference for the units so you don't have to flick back and forth through the books to find information. Again a small and not nescissarily needed thing, just a personal preference that really isn't needed or detracts from the well laid out and designed book.

This is the best resource book I've bought in years. And is a great pre-cursor to how I am going to feel about Warmachines as a whole. The more imagination a game can draw out of me, the greater I am going to enjoy painting and playing it.. and this one hit the motherload.

Ordered Khaos.

Hello Blogosphere.

I start this off with a great big F*** You Games Workshop.

I have been an avid 40k player for a long.. long time.. Hell I've been playing 40k longer than some of the kids that are playing at my local club have been alive (que me feeling old). I struggled to scrape together my three armies, worked those extra hours overtime, took that extra shift, didn't buy that dvd.. just so I could get my armies up and going.. and finally found places which I could afford to get my armies to the points where they were something I enjoyed playing.. I was about to get a big chunk of cash together to buy the last of my Grey Knights together.. when the GW anti-Online Embargo of every country outside of the EU happened.. and I just.. gave up.. you know what? I don't need my third army.. I don't need GW to make anouther dollar off of me for their profit machine.. I love plastic crack.. but it's time to find a new Dealer.

And I almost imediately found one.. Privateer Press. Anouther of the members of the club I am going too suggested starting up Warmachine/Hordes as a 'Tale of 4 gamers' thing. It interested me ... then the embargo was announced.. and then I looked at the game harder.. the rules look far more ballanced, the miniatures are damn beautiful, and I am a sucker for steampunk.

So I looked over the different factions, they all had something I liked, then I opened the Khador book.. and made a girlish squee noise and fell in love. Russians.. Not the soviet block, it's the old school Imperial Russia before all the communist crap. Not only that, they have really great modles.

So after talking to a few guys, and looking a bit more into it, I ordered myself some stuff.

1 x Warmachine Prime Mk2.
1 x Khador Codex.
1 x Khador Starter Box.
1 x Widowmakers Unit.
1 x Great Bears of biglongnamehere.
1 x Manhunter (alt).
1 x War Dog.
1 x Templates and Tokens.

This is just the starter list of my army. After looking over this stuff.. I plan to have a full unit of everything there is to have.. Well almost everthing, a few of the units I dislike out of just visual thing (Doomreavers look.. and feel wrong). But I'll have most, and I'll look into magnatizing my Warjacks, so I can save a little money that way.

I also chose my colour scheme based on the picture of Sorscha and the warjack on page 41 of the Codex. This awesome looking dirty grey/snow look. I think it's going to look great.. But only time will tell.

So lets hope this will be the start of a great long funtime.
