Pictures! (At Last) Vol.3

As there seems to be a limit to how many pictures I can upload to Blogger, I am using my photobucket account.

As you can see I almost have my Kommando squad painted, I have Strakhov and a manhunter painted as well.

Now to some more topical comments, Warmachine modles are increadable, they have so much detail, they are very nice weights and they are very dynamic to look at.

What they lack though is simply.. ease of construction, good lord, these truely have been the hardest models I have ever had the pleasure of putting together and painting. The Kommando's alone were almost the limit of my patience with their arms and the flamethrower is lucky to not have met the fate of a pair of tin snips to get that shield to sit right. I have never pinned modles as extensively as these have been.

The Alt. Manhunter has both her arms pinned, and that was an excercise in itself as the pins and drill I have are barely smaller than the ammount of material I had to work with (I have now purchased a smaller drill bit and smaller pinning material for further projects Alt.Manhunter(Lime) for example) but in the end they were done and they all came out looking supperb, I am sure others will say 'They aren't that hard' no they aren't in fact, but when the shields on the Kommando's don't have any markers to show where they are supposed to connect to the hand, and there are no chinks or resting spots for those hands to connect too the shields to allow it to rest while glueing, pinning is the only option.

Enough ranting, I'm planning to have the last of the Kommando's painted by the end of the week, and hopefully the Demolisher Warjack as well. And if I feel brave enough, I'll get Sorscha painted as well.

Here are more photos.

Pictures! (At Last) Vol.1

As I said, I was going to post up some pictures, though their size may be a little large, I hope you don't mind the downloads, the first picture is of Strakhov, he was also fun to paint. As some may notice I have been using inking and other little tricks as well as the quickshade, matt washes, and pretty much every painting trick I know to bring these modles up to my best standards (which ain't as good as some, but I am happy with what I have so I'm hoping people will go easy on me.

This here is an Alt. Manhunter, she was tricky to pin, this was also very fun to paint. I really tried my best to get her hair to stand out in contrast but not overwhelm the paint scheme.

Pleasant Surprises

Today a package I was waiting for arrived with some paints and Strahkov I got for free with some of the 'cashback' money I earned from Maelstrom games, the paints were 3 bottles of Vallejo paint, one of which being a Matt Varnish. I really wanted this to see what it would look like on top of the Army Painter Quickshade I have on some Grey Knight models that I painted up.. and it looks great, it takes a tonne of the shine off.

Which is exactly what I wanted. I was hoping it would work but, I wasn't expecting anything. So now I know it works I'll be painting up my Assault Kommandos, and dippping them to see how they turn out. One at first, then if it looks the way I want it too, I'll be doing the lot like that.

I've got the paints out and a movie qued up, and the brushes at the ready, the next update will be with hopefully good news about the way the tester comes out.

Paint it Damn it!

I really need to clean house and sit down and make myself a painting station so I can get these mini's all painted. I have to get this done, I am not going to let this army be half painted.

I REFUSE.

With that being said I'm getting on with that today, and hopefully might have something painted, if not tonight, tomorrow.

Learning the Ropes

Well over the weekend I got to play my first real games of Warmachine, 4 different games, getting used to the rules, and learning what does and doesn't work, and picking up on how it all makes things happen.

No wins. XD Well that was to be expected, I was using Sorcha 2x Warjacks and some Kommandos, two words. NO SYNERGY. Trying to run a buffer/combat caster with 2 warjacks doesn't seem to work for me. I want more troops for her. Alot more, and a Behemoth.. or Beast 09. Though I probably would have done better with the 2 Warjacks if I was paying more attention to what I was doing with the focus, I was very distracted with what I was trying to do with the day.. also I found out certain attacks woulfn't have hit her, also if I had her up hiding behind some things other attacks wouldn't have hit either.

But as I said learning it all as we go along. I plan to read more of the rules and learn them. I found out after the fact that the AOE blasts from morters and such once it hits the ground, auto hits what's under it. Sprays need to roll to hit, but AoE's don't (other than the initial roll to hit.)

Next time I'll be a bit more together, I'll also try the Kommando's with Strahkov. Untill next weekend, I'll be reading up on rules, then I'll look into posting up a battle report. (Also planning on getting some new dice as mine failed me all weekend.. well not totally but.. I wasted all my sixes on a series of boxcars that didn't do more than kill normal troops.)
